Not asking for much

... just a little good news.

The application and submission process for overseas teaching opportunities has been depressing, to say the least. I would have been good to go for two positions in Japan, however... one required that I already be in Japan for a face-to-face interview, and the other required that I at least be able to have an interview in Vancouver. The opportunity in the Czech Republic? Need an EU passport. Other opportunities? Either in Tokyo or requiring a year's+ experience.

I've heard that it is possible to obtain an EU passport if one has a family member within 2 generations (or is it 3?) that was born in an EU country. My grandfather qualifies, having been born in Poland before coming to Canada in 1921 or something. Poland joined the EU in May 2004. I will find out more about that process and qualifications this afternoon, I hope.

So yeah. It's a bit disheartening, but I'm keeping at it despite the constant set-backs and lack of responses.

I'd offer to marry you, thereby bestowing British citizenship upon you, but I think bigamy is still frowned on in the U.K.

Maybe you should talk to spurkis? Perhaps he can line you up a nice EU bride...

Hmmm... I don't think I'm desperate enough to get married just to get overseas. But hey... talk to me in 2 weeks. I may have changed my mind and I will accept Steve's betrothal (to a woman).

LOL! Don't give up, man! Have you considered flying to Vancouver? Did you have a good vibe about it?

Not good enough to spend $600 + accomodations. I'm looking into China now. Very much expanding my options from just Japan to: Japan, China or Europe (passport pending). I'm not interested in Taiwan or S. Korea. At least not at the moment.

You know, there is a great possibility that the opportunity that you'll eventually end up getting will be one you never saw coming. Every single job I have ever gotten fell in my lap (including my current one) and everything I ever chased after never materialized. Really, I see jobs like cats.

have you considered applying for a working holiday visa? Then you could work anywhere, doing anything (caveat: for three months with any one employer). It would get you in a country (like...Australia!), and at least you could have a year experiencing something else and trying something new. And you never know what it might lead to.

Keep plugging away m'dear- if you really want it, something will turn up. :)

Uhm... China. The land of the strong and free...

Or is that the weak and the oppressed?

Hey, think about it. I will have to make sure my blog doesn't say democracy anywhere, or you won't be able to read it in China!!!

Seriously, China can also be a very fascinating country with charming people.
